Weddings

Weddings are conducted at St Finbarr’s Church, Byron Bay and St Kevin’s Church, Bangalow at a time and date agreed with our Parish Priest. St Finbarr’s Church can seat 200 people, and St Kevin’s Church can seat 300 people.

Working with the Parish Priest, your special day can be both memorable and spiritual. The Parish requires at least 6 months’ notice to have time to assist you with the necessary paperwork.

Please Note: Due to COVID regulations, restrictions may be applicable to your Wedding arrangements.

In order to help you prepare, we have included the following information.

There are both Church and Government requirements for marriage. Please read the provided information carefully so you understand what is required.

Important points:

• You need to contact our Parish Office no less than 6 months in advance of your wedding. Please note: It is your responsibility to secure the booking with the Parish before making any commitments with caterers, reception venues, etc.
• Our Parish Office will assist you with all the paperwork required to meet the Church and Government requirements.
• Only Catholic Weddings are permitted in a Catholic Church. For a Catholic Wedding, at least one party must be Baptised Catholic.
• If either person is previously married, you will need to discuss the situation with the Parish Office.
• The following churches are available for weddings in the Holy Spirit Parish.
  • St Finbarr’s Church, 50 Tennyson St, Byron Bay.
  • St Kevin’s Church, Deacon St, Bangalow.

Or a different site upon agreement can be used for your wedding location. Please note approval is required from the Bishop of Lismore for all out-of-church locations.

• Each couple must complete an online Marriage Preparation Course.
• A couple can invite a priest from outside the parish to preside at their wedding. Please discuss this with the Parish Office.
